Dr.-Ing. Stefanos Gkatzogiannis, born in 1989 in Veria, Greece, studied Civil Engineering with specialization in Structural Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he graduated with a Diploma in 2012. Since 2012 he has been working as a Research Associate at the Research Center for Steel Timber and Masonry of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the areas of public and industrial research. He conducted his doctoral research on the FE simulation of the residual stress field induced by High Frequency Mechanical Impact post-weld treatment. His other research interests are the simulation with the FE method of welding residual stresses in components by steel and aluminum and the experimental investigation of corrosion influence on the fatigue strength of steel components.
