Dr.-Ing. V. E. Spiegel-Ciobanu took her Master of Science Degree as a process engineer in oil proces...Dr.-Ing. V. E. Spiegel-Ciobanu took her Master of Science Degree as a process engineer in oil processing technology and petrochemistry at the Institute of Petroleum and Gases in Bucharest/Rumania in 1977. After ten years of experience with chemical and petrochemical processes in the petrochemical industry (oil refineries), she started her activities in the field of health and safety in welding and allied processes at the Institution for Statutory Accident Insurance and Prevention for the iron and steel working industries (today: BGHM for woodworking and metalworking industries). Since 1993, she chairs the section Hazardous Substances in Welding and allied Processes in the BG expert committee Metal and Surface Treatment of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV). She works as an expert in the European Standardization (CEN) and in the International Institute of Welding (IIW). In 2009, she graduated to Ph.D.in engineering sciences at the faculty of mechanical engineering of the Rheinisch-WestfälicheTechnischeHochschule Aachen. The principal topic of the doctoral thesis/dissertation was the matrix for the assessment of the hazardous substances exposureby welding fume.
