Prof. Dr.-Ing. Shahram Sheikhi

Dr. Sheikhi has been Professor of Materials Science and Joining Technology since 2014 and has a high level of expertise in the fields of welding and robotics. He was head of technology at MAN Diesel and Turbo responsible for Quality, Materials testing, welding and innovation. As head of materials testing at SLV Duisburg he was involved in different projects in the field of destructive testing including fatigue and fracture mechanics analysis. His background is welding of aluminum and the analysis of its formability. He has studied in University of Wuppertal and received his PHD 2006 in the field of production technology from the University Essen-Duisburg. He has been further educated in the field of welding and quality management. Currently he is heading the laboratory of welding within the institute of material’s science and welding and he is the head of a research and transfer centre (FTZ3i) aiming to transfer knowledge in the field of applied digitalisation by means of continuing education. His research topics include automation in joining technology, the use of robots in surface technology, 3D printing and sustainable production. He has introduced digitalisation into teaching and developed new teaching formats for his classes in joining and material’s science through the following three projects.
