Dr. Alexander M. Galloway
Dr. Alex M. Galloway, CEng, MIMechE, is Associate Dean (International) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Strathclyde/UK. He has published extensively on welding processes, including assessing the mechanisms of de-nitration of nitrogen-rich austenitic stainless steels due to welding. Particular focus is on weld pool nitrogen retention/ absorption and mechanical property improvements as a function of shielding gas/flux composition. Current research includes weld distortion studies of stiffened plates using thermo-mechanical modelling, in collaboration with BAE Systems, and the development of microstructure:property relationships in friction stir welded steel.
