Modelling and prediction of welding parameters for electron beam welding and laser beam welding in vacuum
Authors: M. Sc. Thomas Krichel, Dr.-Ing. Simon Olschok, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Reisgen
Electron beam welding (EBW) is used in areas with the highest quality requirements, such as aerospace, due to its high weld seam quality. In order to reduce the required use of resources (in particular personnel, material and time) in the parameter development of new products, a substitute model of high quality was developed by using statistical evaluation methods. The model mathematically maps the welding relationships and determines welding parameters to match a required weld geometry. Even under totally different conditions using an external electron beam system, it was possible to produce weld seams with small deviations from the desired geometry.
