Does manual metal arc welding with a covered stick electrode have a future?
The covered stick electrode has become
long in the tooth. Oscar Kjellberg
submitted a patent application for it in
1908 and it celebrated its 110th birthday
last year. Although the application of
gas-shielded metal arc welding is continuing
to increase slightly, the stick electrode
is indispensable for certain welding work.
As proven by recent statistics in Germany
(for example), the production value of
stick electrodes has been on a stable level
between Euro 50 million and Euro 70
million in the past twelve years. There are
good reasons for this.
